The Lake Mansion is a beautiful example of
the Italianate style. It is typical of upper-middle-class homes
of the era. The porch is trimmed with "carpenter gingerbread"
a common Victorian-era trim. The hand-etched glass door panels
display Flora, the Roman goddess of flowers and spring. Above
her is her harvest. Like many Victorian homes, the mansion has
hand-carved wooden rails and spindles. The staircase is original
and has never been refinished. The distance between the railing
and the steps decreases as the stair ascends to give the illusion
of a less steep staircase.
